AGARTALA, July 30, 2025: Former Tripura Chief Minister and Lok Sabha MP Biplab Kumar Deb Wednesday demanded a package of Rs 100 crore from the Union Culture Minister for the renovation and maintenance of the archaeological heritage of Unakoti, a promising tourist destination in the North East. Deb argued that the ASI office responsible for the maintenance of Unakoti is not properly maintaining the site creating obstacles to its protection.
He also demanded the shifting of the ASI office responsible for Unakoti from Mizoram to Tripura. Deb argued that the sacred land of traditional emotions and faith needs adequate infrastructure development to encourage visits by tourists.
He urged expansion of essential tourist facilities and recreational facilities around Unakoti, including escape, open-air theater, assembly ground, souvenir shop, cafeteria, toilet and tourist rest house.
