CM intervenes in the unnatural death of a schoolgirl student

The school education department constituted a three member committee

AGARTALA, July 29, 2025: The Tripura government Tuesday constituted a committee to inquire into all aspects of the death of a school student in the southern district. Trisha Majumder of Sonarpur Class XII School at Barpathari in Belonia of south Tripura district allegedly ended her life recently.

The incident hit the news headlines.

The Director of Secondary Education set up the committee at the direction of the Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha. Lisa Bardhan, Joint Director of Elementary Education; Kajal Kumar Bhowmik, OSD at the Directorate of Secondary Education; and Sudip Sarkar, OSD at the office of the District Education Officer, West, are members of the committee, a readout released by the CMO informed.

The readout pointed to prima facie reports suggesting that the girl student may have taken the extreme step following a scolding by a teacher at her school. It said the committee will carry out an extensive investigation into all aspects of the incident and will submit its report by tomorrow.
