Crime trend: 50 flights targeted with bomb threats Sunday
350 hoax threats received by the Indian carriers in past 14 days

NATIONAL, October 27, 2024: On Sunday, at least 50 flights operated by various airlines were targeted with bomb threats adding to the more than 350 hoax threats received by Indian carriers in the past 14 days. Akasa Air reported 15 flights receiving security alerts, which were later cleared for operation after thorough checks.
IndiGo and Vistara faced threats for 18 and 17 flights respectively.
To address this concerning trend, the Indian IT Ministry has urged social media platforms to promptly remove or restrict access to misinformation related to bomb threats.
Union Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu revealed plans to ban individuals responsible for hoax threats from flying proposing amendments to two civil aviation laws for stricter penalties. He also stated that international agencies and law enforcement will collaborate to prevent such threats in the future.
