Ceaseless rain causes record-breaking flooding in NE states
IMD predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in affected districts

REGIONAL, June 01, 2025: Ceaseless rain has caused record-breaking flooding in Assam, Meghalaya and Tripura with Silchar in South Assam experiencing over 100-meter rainfall in 24 hours. The rivers Barak, Jatinga, and Rukni in the Barak valley, all rivers in Tripura are flowing above their danger level.
11 districts in Assam have been put on alert and high level alert for the persistent rain, potentially causing flash floods. The railway link between the state capital and Barak valley through Dima Hasao is at risk of closure due to landslide and flash flood.
The roadways link through Meghalaya has already been closed due to landslides. The highways all affected states have experienced waterlogging, water sinking and damages.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts heavy to very heavy rainfall in affected districts for the next three days.
District authorities are preparing for flood relief distribution for displaced people. Assam University has postponed its Under Graduate and Post Graduate theory examinations and closed all educational institutions.
