AGARTALA, March 23 2023: The budget session of Tripura assembly which will be first after the recently held assembly elections is set to commence Friday. Election of the new Speaker and presentation of the Budget for year 2022-23 are main businesses of the session.
Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha chaired meeting of the council of ministers to discuss proceedings of the assembly.
Ruling BJP and IPFT alliance has filled former Deputy Speaker Biswa Bandhu Sen for the post of Speaker while Congress-CPI(M) alliance has fitted veteran MLA Gopal Roy. The largest block of opposition MLAs, TIPRA, had initially supported the opposition candidate, but in a dramatic twist Thursday it got engaged in a dialogue with the BJP.
TIPRA Chief Pradyot Kishore Manikya hastily flew to New Delhi to meet unnamed leaders. Under his instruction, his party MLA and senior leader Animesh Debbarma did not accompany Gopal Roy during nomination filing despite the latter being signatory of the proposal.
Chief Minister Dr Saha took a pot over the developments and said the opposition camp is in complete disarray. He hoped BJP aspirant Biswa Bandhu Sen would easily sail through the election and ‘will be the winner’.
