Police arrested eight people for involvement in clash

AGARTALA, April 13, 2025: Police Sunday arrested eight protestors in connection with a clash with the police at Kailashahar in Unakoti district. Several people, including some security men, were injured when incidents of scuffles and stone-pelting occurred during a protest against the Waqf (Amendment) Act in the area Saturday.
The protesters were demanding the repeal of the Waqf Amendment Act. The clash resulted in injuries to both police men and protesters leading to the use of tear gas by the police.
Police claimed the protesters had attacked the police with bricks and stones, resulting in injuries to their personnel. They warned appropriate legal action will be taken against the perpetrators.
The protests against the Waqf Act have been taking place in various places in the state for the past couple of days.
