Amit Shah holds a high-level meeting to review flood management
Meeting also reviewed preparations for the Glacial Lake Outburst Flood

NEW DELHI, June 23, 2024: Union Home Minister Amit Shah held a high-level meeting in New Delhi Sunday to review flood management preparedness and long-term measures to mitigate flood threats in India. The meeting discussed new technologies being adopted by agencies and the expansion of their network for flood management.
The meeting also reviewed preparations for the Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) and the optimum use of satellite imagery provided by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) for flood and water management.
Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, India's disaster management is moving forward with a 'Zero Casualty Approach'. The Home Minister appealed to all States and Union Territories to timely implement flood management advisories and directed the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and the Central Water Commission (CWC) to recalibrate flood forecast equipment.
He also directed efforts to upgrade the forecast system of river water levels for better flood management and suggested natural drainage systems as an integral part of road construction designs to deal with inundation in case of floods.
The Union Home Secretary directed coordination and integration in community awareness programs to maximize impact. The meeting involved IMD, CWC, NDRF, and NDMA making detailed presentations, and concerned departments informed about their preparedness for the current monsoon season and future action plan.
