86 Indian seafarers make ultimate sacrifice in World War II
Sonowal first from India to visit the 'Minnehallen Memorial' in Stavern

GLOBAL, June 03, 2025: Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal and His Royal Highness (HRH) The Crown Prince of Norway, Haakon, inaugurated the India Pavilion at Nor-Shipping, a global maritime event in Oslo Tuesday.
The pavilion aims to showcase India's maritime strengths and foster alliances with international maritime players. The Crown Prince visited the pavilion and showed the National Maritime Heritage Complex (NMHC) model, which aims to preserve and showcase India's maritime heritage from Indus Valley Civilisation to this date.
Sarbananda Sonowal has been first Minister from India to visit the 'Minnehallen Memorial' in Stavern, Norway, where he paid tribute to the 86 Indian seafarers who made the ultimate sacrifice during World War II.
The Norwegian government inscribed their names on copper plaques, which are now installed at the Minnehallen Memorial. The Seamen's Memorial Hall is Norway's official memorial in commemoration of the seafarers who perished during the First and Second World Wars.
