REGIONAL, October 25, 2024: Union Minister of Textiles Giriraj Singh highlighted the significance of the Northeast region in India's textile industry noting that handloom, textiles and handicrafts from the region contribute over ₹45,000 crore in exports. He spoke at the inauguration of the National Institute of Fashion Technology's permanent campus and the 12th convocation ceremony for the graduating class of 2024 Friday.
Singh emphasized the importance of innovation and technology in the design process to protect creativity in the industry. He mentioned the potential for India's textile industry to reach $350 billion by 2030 creating millions of jobs.
Singh also praised the VisionNxt initiative by NIFT and announced plans to establish campuses outside India. He encouraged students to represent the "Bharat brand" globally and emphasized the importance of green sustainable textile products. The event was attended by other officials including Shri Pabitra Margherita and Paul Lyngdoh highlighting the government's commitment to the growth and recognition of India's textile industry.
