National Youth Festival – Viksit Bharat Young Leaders Dialogue
REGIONAL: The Department of Sports and Youth Affairs in Meghalaya in coordination with My Bharat Kendra held a Meet and Greet event for youth delegates selected to participate in the National Youth Festival – Viksit Bharat Young Leaders Dialogue (VBYLD) 2026 at Governor’s House, Shillong, Friday. Meghalaya Governor CH Vijayashankar attended the event congratulating the delegates for successfully navigating a national-level selection process and representing Meghalaya at the VBYLD. He underscored that true leadership transcends mere titles, emphasizing responsibility, character and societal service.
Meghalaya secured representation in the Viksit Bharat – Design for Bharat track with two students from the National Institute of Technology, Shillong, Nishant Kumar Singh and Necharika Singh, whose project—a Smart Braille Watch—serves as an affordable assistive device for visually impaired individuals, allowing them to access time and notifications via tactile Braille. They are currently in New Delhi preparing to present their innovation alongside Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.
Among the representatives, Ashita Kar, a Class XI student, expressed her enthusiasm for participating in the festival again, planning to present her vision for a future-ready workforce aimed at Viksit Bharat. Akbarlang Synteng Nongdhar, also from East Khasi Hills District, expressed pride in representing his state in the Folk Dance category, highlighting the importance of national opportunities to showcase cultural heritage.
In total, 25 youths from Meghalaya were selected through a rigorous multi-stage process involving nearly 50 lakh participants nationwide. From Meghalaya, 2,393 engaged in an online quiz, leading 475 participants to an essay competition based on ten themes of the Viksit Bharat Challenge, effectively highlighting the initiative's broad engagement and selection rigor.
