By IH News Desk Dec 29, 2025 6
AGARTALA: Tripura government is presently achieving sustainable development through various initiatives such as rainwater storage and afforestation. This was stated by Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath during the Watershed Management Festival 2025 at Mohanpur, Taranagar Monday.

He asserted the pressing issue of water scarcity despite the Earth having abundant water resources.

The main objective of this programme is to provide support to states that heavily rely on rainwater for agriculture with a particular focus on addressing groundwater depletion in Haryana, Punjab and Rajasthan. The minister also mentioned the government's commitment to promoting agriculture and improving the livelihoods of farmers, youth, women and the underprivileged in line with the vision of Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat.

Some of the ongoing projects include the Watershed Management Plan Phase-II and the development of an ecotourism watershed zone at Tara Sundari Dam. The government has already made significant progress in constructing dams and ponds, restoring water bodies and expanding tree plantations to encourage sustainable practices.
