AIZAWL, October 09 2021: The Election Commission of India (ECI) Saturday deployed three central observers for the upcoming bye-election to the Tuirial assembly constituency. Four candidates have filed nominations for the by-poll slated for October 30.

Tuirial assembly constituency is named after Tuirial River that flows across Mizoram and Assam.

The seat became vacant after the death of Andrew H Thangliana in August this year.

The ruling MNF, main opposition ZPM, Congress and BJP candidates filed their nominations Friday last.

The constituency has little over 17,900 voters including 663 Brus who are registered in Mizoram electoral rolls, but were languishing in makeshift camps in Tripura where they were given permanent settlement recently.

The ECI has not announced a decision whether these displaced Bru tribe voters will be given right to franchise.

Meanwhile ECI has notified deployment of three central observers for the bye-election. They are –
