By Various Apr 17, 2026 84

NATIONAL: The biannual Army Commanders’ Conference (ACC) was held at New Delhi from April 13 to April 16 chaired by the Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) and attended by top military leadership along with key government officials including the Cabinet Secretary and the Chief of the Defence Staff. This conference aligns with the Indian Army's vision to evolve into a 'Future Ready Force' designating 2026 as the year for “Networking and Data Centricity”.

Discussions during the conference encompassed various themes related to modernization and the infusion of advanced technology in combat operations. Key topics included doctrinal and training requirements focused on enhancing operational readiness to respond to emerging security challenges.

The insights drawn from Operation Sindoor were particularly significant as they informed the senior army leadership on the capability requirements for operational effectiveness, including the deployment of Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) and Counter Unmanned Aerial Systems (C-UAS).

The presentations underscored the changing geopolitical landscape along with the global, regional, and internal security challenges being faced. Notably, lessons from international conflicts prompted the speakers to advocate for the use of Hard Power to safeguard India's strategic interests.

There was a strong emphasis on the necessity for inter-ministerial cooperation, increased collaboration between civilian and military institutions and adopting a whole of nation approach to effectively tackle complex security issues. The discussions highlighted an urgent imperative to enhance indigenous production capabilities, creating self-reliance in defense, which is critical for maintaining long-term strategic resilience, especially amid current global supply chain crises.
