Plans to develop Telangana as a strategic aerospace hub

By S Sharmili Apr 17, 2026 65

HYDERABAD: Telangana IT and Industries Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu announced plans to develop Telangana as a strategic aerospace hub at a national conference organised by the Aeronautical Society of India in Hyderabad Friday. He stressed the importance of an integrated ecosystem that combines R&D, advanced manufacturing and compliance to position the state as a global leader in aerospace.

While India possesses a significant pool of scientists and engineers, less than 30% of research translates into commercial products, a gap the government aims to close. With a predicted demand for 42,000 new aircraft in the next 20 years, Hyderabad is set to leverage this opportunity.

The Minister underlined the need for local testing and certification facilities to reduce reliance on foreign services. He pointed to future technologies like drones and AI as key to the aerospace sector's evolution.

Telangana's existing aerospace component supply by over 1,500 MSMEs, along with its infrastructure and skilled workforce, aims to attract more global aerospace investments. The conference was attended by key personalities from the aerospace sector.
