NATIONAL: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has launched a new initiative effective from May 1 that involves the use of QR codes on its notices. This initiative aims to help the public verify the authenticity of these notices through an AI-powered chatbot named 'ABHAY'.
The announcement was made Monday during the 22nd DP Kohli Memorial Lecture by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant.
The main purpose of this initiative is to protect citizens from cybercriminals who impersonate the CBI and issue fake notices in order to extort money through scams such as threatening digital arrest. The QR codes will indicate the expiry dates of the notices allowing users to scan them through ABHAY and access the CBI's database to verify their validity.
During his speech, the CJI stressed the importance of making ABHAY easily accessible to the public, suggesting that it should be pre-installed on mobile devices for greater expedience and effectiveness in preventing fraud.
