Eastern Nagaland peace agreement signed in New Delhi

NATIONAL: A tripartite agreement was signed in New Delhi Thursday to resolve the separate state movement in eastern Nagaland and pave way to the establishment of the "Frontier Nagaland Territorial Authority" within Nagaland. The Union Home Minister, Nagaland Chief Minister Dr Neiphiu Rio and leaders from the Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organisation (ENPO) were in attendance at the signing aimed at ending a prolonged tension regarding the state's division.

Chief Minister Dr Rio described the agreement as a pivotal step toward ensuring equitable and inclusive development across all regions of the state. He expressed appreciation to the Prime Minister, the Union Home Minister and the Union Home Secretary along with government officials for their unwavering support throughout the negotiation process that culminated in the signing of this important accord.

Dr Rio said he hoped that this agreement would foster mutual trust among the diverse groups within Nagaland and address the aspirations of the Eastern Nagaland populace, facilitating development that reaches every citizen's doorstep. He extended his congratulations to the people of Eastern Nagaland on this significant achievement recognising their collective journey toward this historic milestone.
