NATIONAL: Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi Tuesday declared the 1963 China-Pakistan agreement concerning the Shaksgam Valley in Jammu and Kashmir as illegal, affirming India's position on the territorial claims. In response to inquiries about comments from the Chinese Foreign Ministry, he reiterated India's disapproval of any actions in the Valley.

General Dwivedi noted that the situation along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China remains stable, though it requires ongoing vigilance.

He cited Operation Sindoor as a prime example of successful tri-service coordination, asserting the full authorisation to respond to threats effectively. Following the Pahalgam terror attack, a decisive response strategy was adopted, with Operation Sindoor aiming to reset strategic assumptions by destroying significant terror infrastructure and challenging Pakistan’s longstanding nuclear rhetoric.

General Dwivedi reported that the Indian Army successfully targeted seven out of nine objectives during the operation.

General added that since May 10, the security situation along the Western Front and in Jammu and Kashmir has been sensitive yet firmly under control. He highlighted the elimination of 31 terrorists in the previous year, with a significant proportion being of Pakistani origin.

He remarked on the increasing frequency and severity of global armed conflicts, underlining the importance of preparedness for national security.
