NATIONAL, May 09, 2025: The central government Friday announced that the country has sufficient food stocks to meet domestic demand, but has warned traders and wholesalers against hoarding essential food items to create an artificial shortage. The warning comes as the conflict between India and Pakistan escalates with Pakistan resorting to a spate of shelling and drone attacks in India’s border towns.
Union Food and Consumer Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi urged citizens not to panic or rush to the markets to purchase foodgrains, stating that the country has ample food stocks exceeding required norms. He also directed traders, wholesalers, retailers and business entities to cooperate with law enforcement agencies and prosecute anyone involved in hoarding or stockpiling under the Essential Commodities Act.
The government also assured that there is no shortage of essential commodities including Rice, Wheat and pulses like Chana, Tur, Masoor and Moong.
