Executive Programme on Garment Construction: Kids Wear

SHILLONG: Inauguration of the Executive Programme on Garment Construction: Kids Wear was held Monday at the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Shillong. The programme is organised by the Department of Commerce and Industries under the RAMP initiative, a flagship programme of the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, co-sponsored by the World Bank, in partnership with NIFT Shillong.

Moonlander Wanshnong, Joint Director of Commerce and Industries, graced the occasion as the chief guest. In his address, he emphasised the significance of this program in empowering the textile and garment sector in Meghalaya, particularly focusing on the niche segment of kids wear garment construction. 

He acknowledged the role of NIFT Shillong in fostering excellence in design education and skill development, highlighting the valuable expertise of its faculty and trainers.

Among the dignitaries present were Rimi Das, Joint Director of NIFT; Unsanhame Mawkhlieng, Assistant Professor, Department of Textile Design, NIFT; LD Synrem, Functional Manager, DCIC-Shillong; and Ridip Huzuri, SPIU (RAMP). Rimi Das, Joint Director of NIFT, encouraged the trainees to be sincere and open to learning the technical aspects of the trade throughout the program tenure, underscoring the importance of dedication and practical knowledge in achieving success.

The programme aims to build capacity and enhance skills among 25 entrepreneurs and artisans, contributing to the economic development of Meghalaya. It is envisioned as a platform for knowledge exchange, creativity and collaboration to produce high-quality, market-ready products that celebrate the rich cultural heritage and craftsmanship of the region.

The Department of Commerce and Industries, along with NIFT Shillong, looks forward to nurturing a vibrant, sustainable, and globally competitive garment industry that benefits local communities and inspires future generations.
