AGARTALA, September 23 2022: Burba Mohan Tripura, one of senior most MLAs in Tripura, has resigned as MLA Friday, the day 12th assembly session commenced. The 67-year-old leader also made his departure from the BJP and joined the TIPRA barely five months before state assembly elections.
Tripura left the BJP a day after he voted for party nominee former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb in by-election to lone Rajya Sabha seat. He was known as a rebel within the BJP circle and his resignation had long been anticipated.
He was expected to join Congress, but he ultimately opted to go with the TIPRA led by Maharaja Pradyot Kishore Debbarman, after assessing strength of the regional party in his home turf. Tripura was elected as a BJP candidate from Karbook constituency in Gomati district in February 2018 assembly elections.
His resignation from the assembly has been accepted.
