REGIONAL, June 16, 2025: The BJP Monday organised a protest in Agartala to condemn the alleged vandalism at Nobel-laureate poet Rabindranath Tagore's ancestral home in Sirajganj district of Bangladesh. Led by Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharjee and state President of the party, hundreds of BJP supporters demanded the resignation of the interim government led by Dr Mohammad Yunus.
The protest was staged near the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission with the BJP calling for stricter security measures. Prior to this, the BJP had also organised a road march and torch rally to protest against the vandalism at Tagore's ancestral property, Kutcherybari, which is now a museum.
The Bangladesh government has claimed to have made arrests and launched an investigation into the incident.
However, BJP state President Rajib Bhattacharjee criticised the Yunus government for not taking appropriate action against those responsible for attacks on minorities. The protest ended peacefully, but the organizers have warned that they will continue to hold protests if minorities are continue to face attacks in Bangladesh.
