GLOBAL, September 06, 2025: US President Donald Trump has officially signed a proclamation to rename the Department of Defense to the Department of War marking a significant change in the organisation's long history. The move was announced after discussions with Secretary of War Pete Hegseth and Joint Chiefs of Staff Dan Caine.

Trump underlined the importance of restoring the warrior ethos, victory, clarity and intentionality of the Department of War. Hegseth asserted the department's focus on fighting decisively, not endless conflicts and focusing on offense rather than defence.

The rebranding also sends a message of victory and strength to American enemies and allies, they opined.
