GLOBAL, September 30, 2025: The Jumma Chatra Janata (Indigenous Students and People) has decided to suspend its blockade in Khagrachari in Chittagong Hill Tracts in southeast Bangladesh until October 5 following four days of protests triggered by the alleged gang-rape of a schoolgirl from the Jumma (indigenous) community on September 23. The group announced their decision in a media statement Tuesday on a social media platform.
The forum cited assurances from authorities to address eight key demands. The unrest has left at least three members of the indigenous community dead and numerous others injured.
Meanwhile reports said a medical examination earlier conducted by a team of doctors conveyed that there were "no signs of rape" of the “Marma victim-survivor”.
The report has been submitted to the health department authority while protests demanding justice have erupted across Khagrachari escalating to violent clashes between ethnic minorities and security forces.
