REGIONAL, June 17, 2025: Dr Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State for Science & Technology, Tuesday chaired a high-level review meeting of science and technology institutes in the Northeast, along with key departments of the Nagaland government, in Wokha district. He highlighted recent breakthroughs in the region due to an enabling ecosystem fostered by the Government's strong inclination towards science, technology and innovation.
Singh emphasised the importance of not limiting scientific advancement to central areas but expanding it actively into peripheral and remote regions particularly the Northeastern states, which hold immense untapped potential. He highlighted the region's rich biodiversity and identified agriculture, tourism and film production as key focus areas for sustainable growth.
He also highlighted the success of the One District One Product (ODOP) scheme with banana cultivation in Wokha District, which can be scaled to a larger commercial level. A 15-day nationwide saturation campaign for flagship government schemes is being launched to achieve maximum reach and inclusion.
Dr Singh praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi's consistent prioritization of the Northeast and urged youth and women to take leadership roles. He concluded that India's economic rise to the top three economies globally will be fuelled by unexplored and underexplored regions like the Northeast.
