AGARTALA, January 15, 2025: The Tripura Assembly approved a bill Wednesday to increase the salaries, pensions and benefits of the Chief Minister, Ministers, Speaker, Leader of the Opposition, and MLAs by 100%.

Under the new amendment, the Chief Minister will receive a monthly salary of ₹97,000, with an additional sumptuary allowance of ₹13,000. Ministers and the Leader of the Opposition will receive a monthly salary of ₹95,000, with an allowance of ₹12,000.

MLAs will also receive a salary of ₹93,000 with an allowance of ₹12,000. The bill was introduced by Parliamentary Affairs Minister. However Leader of the Opposition and CPI(M) State Secretary Jitendra Chowdhury criticised the 100% increase in salaries and pensions though said that it is normal to periodically review and adjust these amounts.

Despite this criticism, the CPI(M) block in the assembly supported the amendment leading to a unanimous resolution.
