AGARTALA, December 17, 2025: In a strategic move to strengthen agricultural productivity and achieve food self-sufficiency, the Tripura Agriculture Department has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Bureau of Soil Survey (NBSS) in Agartala Wednesday.
This collaboration will involve comprehensive research on cultivable lands across three districts aiming to establish sustainable farming practices, officials said.
Tripura Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath lauded the MoU and stressed the importance of land research for self-reliance in agriculture stating that previous administrations lacked actionable plans for achieving food sufficiency.
The MoU follows thorough surveys conducted by NBSS soil scientists, which will guide farmers on suitable crops based on soil conditions. The government aims for increased agricultural output, with an initiative to GI-tag more products, and has already seen an increase in self-sufficient blocks from 22 to 30.
Future plans involve extending successful agricultural practices across remaining districts.
