REGIONAL, December 04, 2025: In a commendable effort to support digital journalism in Nagaland, the Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) distributed tablet computers to accredited journalists during the 63rd Statehood Day celebration at Kohima. Chief Minister Dr Neiphiu Rio presented the devices to the Presidents of the Kohima, Dimapur and Mokokchung Press Clubs, officially launching the initiative.
40 working journalists from across the state were carefully selected to receive the tablets under the scheme implemented by the DIPR. This initiative was born out of discussions with the Finance Commissioner during the 2025-26 Assembly Budget dinner, where the need to equip journalists with digital tools was emphasised.
The project aims to enhance field-based reporting, promote data-driven journalism and bridge the digital divide among media professionals working in different parts of the state.
Alice Yhoshü, President of the Kohima Press Club, expressed gratitude to the state government, specifically acknowledging Chief Minister Dr Neiphiu Rio, Chief Secretary Sentiyanger Imchen and the Information and Public Relations Department (DIPR) for recognising the significance of digital connectivity for journalists.
The DIPR highlighted that this initiative will foster stronger collaboration between the media and government by promoting accurate, technology-based reporting and timely dissemination of public information. The department further emphasised that this program serves as a model for future journalist empowerment through technology in Nagaland.
