At Modern English School's 9th Inter-School Drama Competition
TO NURTURE dramatic skills and encourage acting ability among students, Modern English School (MES), Guwahati, proudly organised the 9th Inter-School Drama Competition 2022-2023 Saturday at the Banikanta Kakati Auditorium.
The event was inaugurated in the presence of several eminent dignitaries including renowned Film and Theatre Personalities like Jayanta Das (Guest of Honour), Ashim Kumar Sharma, Babi Baruah, and Nayan Prasad (Judges). The event was also graced by the presence of Mr. J. Barman, Joint Secretary, Head of Centre of Excellence, CBSE, Guwahati. As a chief guest for the competition, he encouraged the participants with his presence.
In addition, an opening chorus, along with various other cultural programme, was a part of the event.
The inter-school competition is organised annually by Modern English School. It is an excellent platform for students to collaborate and exhibit creativity in acting, design, and playwriting.
''The drama competition is an excellent opportunity for our students to showcase their talents and learn from their peers. It is an art form that allows students to express themselves, explore different perspectives, and develop essential life skills such as teamwork, communication, and problem-solving. Through drama, our students learn to think critically and creatively and gain confidence in their abilities,'' said Jonali Das, Principal of Modern English School.
''The competition also promotes basic life skills in students like co-operation, collaboration, and teamwork. Furthermore, staging a performance together allows them to create bonds of friendship, an essential quality to work together towards a goal,'' added Das.
The winners of the 9th Inter-School Drama Competition included -
Layan Ranjan Saikia from Assam Jatiya Bidyalay. He bagged the award for the best male actor for the play, Chiriyakhana Dot com.
Tejanshi Dihingia from Assam Jatiya Bidyalay was the best female actor for the play Chiriyakhana Dot com
Yashaswi Nath from Modern English School was awarded as best male supporting actor for the play Jon Mamar Sandhanat
Digangana Madhukulya from Modern English School was the best female supporting actor for the play Jon Mamar Sandhanat
Riyan Yogi from Modern English School was the best comic actor for the play Jon Mamar Sandhanat
Ganesh Das from Modern English School was recognised as the best scriptwriter for the play Jon Mamar Sandhanat
Nababikash Sharma from Assam Jatiya Bidyalay bagged the best director award for Chiriyakhana Dot com
Assam Jatiya Bidyalay’s team was recognised as the best drama team in the grand competition. The eminent Jury also furnished a special award to the Army Public School, Narangi’s team for the best teamwork in their performance.
The participating teams were evaluated on various parameters, including their performance and costumes. Besides offering a captivating experience to the audience, the performing groups also delivered essential messages to promote social harmony and holistic growth.
