"Maimizial" wins 1st prize in Mizo Short Film Competition
THE award ceremony for the Mizo Short Film Competition 2026 organised by the I&PR Directorate in collaboration with the Mizoram Film Development Committee was held today at the Mini Theatre, Lianchhiari Run, Directorate of Information & Public Relations, Treasury Square, Aizawl. A total of 41 short films were submitted for the competition.
B Lalchhanzova, Minister, IPR & PS Department, attended and presented the awards. The ceremony was conducted by Director K Vanlalsangi, and Secretary Betsy Zothanpari Sailo presented a brief report on the short film competition.
Addressing the gathering, IPR & PS Minister B Lalchhanzova said that a good film is powerful and can influence the audience’s thoughts, guiding them toward both positive and negative directions. He emphasized that it is important not merely to produce many films, but to produce quality films. The Minister also announced that, with support from the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, the ‘Lemchan – Mizo Film Festival’ is planned to be held in Mizoram from March 16–18 to promote the state’s film industry. He stated that it is important to make good use of this festival so that filmmaking and related activities can continue to develop as sustainable livelihoods.
For the Mizo Short Film Competition 2026, films of 10–15 minutes in length were accepted until 16 February 2026, and 41 entries were received. After careful evaluation by the judges, the results were announced today.
1st Prize: ₹2,50,000
2nd Prize: ₹1,25,000
3rd Prize: ₹70,000
Five Consolation Prizes: ₹30,000 each
