NATIONAL, July 01, 2024: Union Home Minister Amit Shah has hailed introduction of three new criminal laws to ensure justice, speedy trial and speedy justice instead of delay. The laws came into effect Monday reflect the Indian spirit in the criminal justice system and include provisions beneficial to the people, he said at a news conference.
Shah said they have been discussed extensively with stakeholders for four years and the priority of sections and chapters has been fixed in accordance with the spirit of the Constitution of India.
“The first priority has been given to crimes against women and children, with a new chapter added to make the laws more sensitive. Mob lynching has been defined and severe punishment provided for in the new laws”.
The law of sedition made by the British has been abolished, and a new section has been added for anti-national activities, providing severe punishment for those who damage India's unity and integrity, home minister lamented.
Amit Shah expected after full implementation the three new laws will create the most modern judicial system, adopting technology and ensuring that all technologies that will come in the next 50 years can be included. 99.9% of police stations across the country have been computerized and the process of generating e-records began in 2019.
The Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam 2023 leverages technology in the field of evidence, interpreting server logs, location evidence, and voice messages as evidence. The Ministry of Home Affairs, Home Department of each state and the Ministry of Justice have made efforts to implement these laws, adding sections based on their relevance and removing disputed ones to create better outcomes for the people.
