NATIONAL, April 03, 2025: The Supreme Court Thursday upheld the Calcutta High Court's ruling that declared the appointment of over 250,000 teachers and staff in West Bengal schools as invalid. The court found the selection process to be fraudulent and damaging to its credibility.
As a result, a new selection process is expected to be completed within three months, with exceptions for candidates who were not involved in any wrongdoing. The court has however granted leniency for disabled employees.
The opposition parties have condemned the Trinamool Congress government for revoking the appointments, and the BJP has called for Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's resignation. In response, Banerjee has promised to initiate a new recruitment process within three months.
This case has sparked criticism from both the state government and opposition parties.
