AGARTALA, June 21 2022: The public campaign for by-elections to four assembly constituencies in Tripura ended Tuesday afternoon. Major political parties were seen racing against time to engage in high-voltage programmes to woo the voters.
The by-elections are seen as a semi-final for the state assembly elections scheduled in February next year. Chief Minister of BJP led coalition government Dr Manik Saha is a candidate in one of the segments in the state capital.
Authorities have enforced certain curbs and measures including Section 144 of the CrPC in compliance with the directives of the election commission to hold free, fair and peaceful elections on June 23. Bulk movement of people and vehicles are prohibited in demarcated areas.
Officials said the resections issued for all four assembly constituencies would remain in force till morning of June 24. They said only central paramilitary forces will be deployed inside and outside of the polling stations.
The security forces have stated foot patrolling and area domination activities.
Meanwhile former Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb joined campaign rallies in both 6-Agartala and 8-Town Bardowali assembly constituencies in high-pitched finale of campaign. A couple of central BJP leaders also participated.
