AGARTALA, January 14, 2025: The "Poush Sankranti Mela" is a popular annual festival held at Tirthamukh in South Tripura celebrated on January 13-14. Due to its proximity to the Indo-Bangladesh border, the festival poses security concerns for the Border Security Force (BSF).
To ease all concerns and threats, DIG Sector HQ Anil Sharma had directed the BSF units to take precautionary measures to ensure the smooth conduct of the festival. The BSF has implemented various initiatives including deploying additional troops conducting joint patrols with TSR and Tripura Police, maintaining riverine domination in the Gomati River and Damboor Lake.
Border surveillance through the use of Night Vision Devices, Drones and CCTV were also increased. Local stakeholders such as the Taxi Operator Association and Boat Association have also been engaged to facilitate the movement of pilgrims along the Indo-Bangladesh border road.
Interceptor teams on motorbikes were engaged patrolling the border and mobile check posts were established to promote security.
