Observers from 23 countries arrive to witness LS polls

NEW DELHI, May 04, 2024: 75 international visitors from Election Management Bodies of twenty-three countries have arrived in India to oversee the Lok Sabha elections. The Election Commission of India has invited these delegates to witness democratic excellence first hand, exemplifying its commitment to conducting General Elections of the highest standards.
During their visit, the delegates will participate in a six-day programme beginning today. According to Akashvani (AIR) correspondent, the Election Commission stated that the programme aims to familiarise foreign Election Management Bodies with the nuances of India’s electoral system and the best practices used by the largest democracy in the world.
Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar and Election Commissioners Gyanesh Kumar and Dr. Sukhbir Singh Sandhu will address the delegates tomorrow. Afterward, the delegates will visit six states - Maharashtra, Goa, Gujarat, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh - to observe preparedness and polls in various constituencies.
The visit of foreign observers will conclude on May 9.
