391 sportspersons awarded cash prize in various categories

KOHIMA, August 29 2023: National Sports Day witnessed a grand ceremony where meritorious sportspersons were recognised and celebrated. The event took place at Indira Gandhi Stadium in Kohima Tuesday with KG Kenye, Minister of Power and Parliamentary Affairs, gracing the occasion as the special guest.
During his address, Kenye highlighted the significance of the day and praised Nagaland's achievements in sports, including the accomplishments of athletes like Dr T Ao and Chekrovolu Swuro.
S. Keoshu Yimkhiung, Advisor for Youth Resources & Sports, emphasized the inspiring role that the awarded sportspersons play in motivating young talents. He called for renewed dedication to providing optimal opportunities and facilities for aspiring athletes in Nagaland.
Altogether 391 sportspersons were awarded cash prizes in various sports categories and disciplines. Recipients of State Awards for Coaches were: Holshe Khrieo, Junior State Coach (Sepaktakraw) ; Visabiu Peseyie, Junior State Coach (Taekwondo); Mughato Aye, Sports Coach (Football); C Tongjen Thai, Sports Coach (Athletics) and Virender Kumar, Head Coach (Wrestling).
During the event, cash awards were bestowed upon meritorious athletes for their achievements spanning from 2020 to 2022. The recognition encompassed various disciplines, including the 61st Edition of Subroto International Cup Football (Junior Boys U-17), 2nd North East Olympic Games, Taekwondo, Archery, Wrestling, Boxing, Athletics, Weightlifting, and more. Winners of notable events such as the 23rd, 24th & 25th Sub Junior National Sepaktakraw, 31st Senior National Sepaktakraw Championship, and various other championships were part of the award ceremony.
The event was chaired by Wezope Kenye, Commissioner & Secretary of Youth Resources & Sports.
