REGIONAL, November 17, 2024: The National People's Party (NPP) has Sunday withdrawn its support for the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government in violence-ridden Manipur. The NPP, which has seven MLAs in the 60-member Manipur assembly, claims that the Chief Minister N Biren Singh-led administration has failed to resolve the crisis and restore normalcy.
The party, headed by Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, stated that the situation in Manipur has deteriorated resulting in the loss of innocent lives and causing immense suffering for the people.
Meanwhile irate mobs have set fire to the residences of three more Bharatiya Janata Party legislators and a Congress MLA in various districts of Imphal Valley. Curfew imposed in sensitive areas of Manipur and internet services put on hold.
In wake of the escalating violence, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has reviewed the security situation in Manipur and directed top officials to take all necessary steps to ensure peace. Shah returned to the national capital after canelling his election rallies in Maharashtra Sunday.
