Kohima task force meeting on plastic ban held

AGARTALA, September 17, 2019: The Kohima District Task Force (DTF) on restricting use of Plastics held meeting in the office chamber of Deputy Commissioner Kohima. The meeting was chaired by Deputy Commissioner Kohima who is also the Chairman of DTF, Gregory Thejawelie.
The meeting was held to work out the strategies and also review the action plan undertaken for the implementation of the exercise at district headquarter and Sub-Divisional levels. The district administration officers shared their programme on awareness of plastic free environment to be conducted in their respective jurisdiction, which includes villages, churches, colleges and schools within this month prior to the enforcement of plastic ban by the State Government from October 1 next year.
The meeting had a lengthy discussion on the items to be banned initially and decided to concentrate on the items causing maximum pollution in the present scenario, which includes all plastic carry bags with or without handles, irrespective of thickness and size; all plastic cutleries including plates, cups, straw, stirrers etc. and all cutleries and other decorative items made of Styrofoam (Thermocol).
The meeting discussed on modalities on how for being vigilant and monitor prevention of single use plastic.
