Internet ban extended for 24 hours in Tripura

AGARTALA, December 12, 2019: Ban on Internet data and SMS services in Tripura has been extended for another 24 hours. Officials said the measure was guided by intelligence inputs on tensed situation prevailing in wake of massive anti-CAB protests in the state.
The ban was imposed Tuesday for 48 hours and was to end Thursday afternoon. Officials could not confirm if the services would resume on Friday or be further extended.
They added that the decision would be taken at the highest level of the state government in consultation with the Ministry of Home Affairs.
In Assam, internet services withdrawn for an indefinite period owing to state’s volatile situation in wake of violent anti-CAB protests.
Tripura has been reeling under violence and tension since Monday as anti – CAB protestors enforced strike and blocked traffic.
At least one person died and a few hundreds injured across the state till time of announcement of withdrawal of protest Wednesday night.
Scores of shops and vehicles were gutted in the protest flare. Hundreds of people took shelter in makeshift camps.
Paramilitary forces including Assam Rifles were deployed in sensitive areas. Tension continues to lash interior areas.
