AGARTALA: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami Saturday assured his Tripura counterpart Dr Manik Saha of proper investigation and trial into the murder of a student from the state. Angel Chakma died Thursday from injuries 15 days after he suffered in an attack by a group of drunken men in the hilly state.
The victim and his brother were attacked for objecting to racial abuse, reports said. The body of Angel Chakma, who was a resident of Nandannagar near Agartala, was brought back Saturday.
Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha in his social media page wrote that Uttarakhand Chief Minister informed him about the arrest of five accused persons. Dhami assured him that justice would be delivered.
Reports said the 24-year-old student from Tripura died after he was allegedly stabbed in Uttarakhand's capital, Dehradun, for objecting to racial abuse.
Angel Chakma breathed his last at a hospital in Dehradun Thursday.
Police arrested five people in connection with the murder, while one accused, a Nepali national, managed to cross the border.
Meanwhile, founder of Tipra Motha Pradyot Kishore Debbarman said he has personally spoken to grieving family members and also, through his team assisted them to transport the ‘departed soul back to our state.’
“We will ensure that the murderers of Angel Chakma get due punishment”, he stated.
