International conference on sustainable hill farming held
Event engaged eminent scientists, academicians and policy experts

AGARTALA, November 23, 2025: The two-day International Conference on “The Pursuit for Sustainable Hill Farming: Innovations for Profitability and Ecological Balance to Ensure a Future Livelihood (PASEL–2025)” concluded in Agartala recently focusing on the transformation of hill agriculture in the North Eastern Region.
Organised by the ICAR for NEH Region and the Indian Association of Hill Farming, the event engaged eminent scientists, academicians and policy experts in discussions about sustainable farming practices in hilly ecosystems.
Dr Hazarika emphasized the conference's role in addressing the specific challenges faced by hill agriculture. Former ICAR directors advocated for science-driven solutions to combat climate change impacts on agriculture, emphasising advancements in plant breeding, irrigation, crop diversification, natural farming and improved rice processing technologies in Tripura.
Anil K Kotmire from NABARD highlighted the need for enhanced marketing channels and support for agricultural startups. Dr AB Patel recognized aquaculture's growing importance in developing climate-resilient livelihoods while Dr AK Mohanty discussed the potential of bio-manufacturing and agri-preneurship in the region.
Prof Dr Ratan Saha, as Chief Guest, praised the event and encouraged young scientists to leverage modern research tools for agricultural improvements. The conference concluded with an award ceremony for outstanding presentations and a resolution to develop a roadmap to promote environmentally friendly innovations and enhance farm resilience.
The organising team received gratitude for their efforts and the event was officially closed with a vote of thanks from Dr Samir Das of ICAR RC for the NEH.
