AGARTALA, July 19 2023: Manipur police Wednesday assured stern action against the perpetrators who were seen in a video clip parading two young Kuki women naked and sexually assaulting them. The police announced to have registered a case at the Nongpok Sekmai police station in Thoubal District.

Manipur government was visibly perturbed after a national outcry over the video clip went viral inviting ire from all sections of people. The central government advised Chief Minister N Biren Singh to swing into action.

The women shown in video were gangraped and murdered as Manipur police statement read “a case of abduction, gangrape and murder’ was registered. It went to say all-out effort launched to arrest the culprits at the earliest.

The incident occurred on May 4, a day after ethnic conflict broke out in Manipur.

Interestingly the case connected Nongpok Sekmai police station was adjudged as best performing Police Station in the country in 2020.

Meanwhile renowned and highly acclaimed activist Binalaxmi Nepram, a Meitei herself, demanded resignation of ‘those in charge’ in her angry response to the horrifying incident.
