AGARTALA, February 28, 2025: Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha said Friday that his government is taking steps to eradicate dowry cases including the appointment of eight Deputy Collectors and Sub-divisional Magistrates as Dowry Prohibition Officers. The aim is to prevent women from facing issues related to dowries.
Speaking at the ‘Swabalambi Naari, Swabalambi Tripura’ programme, Dr Saha also highlighted the importance of women's welfare, stating that the BJP government has been working towards making women self-sufficient and ensuring their overall welfare. He said the government is also working to provide protection to women and empower them economically.
Women are becoming self-reliant due to the government's efforts to uplift their socio-economic status. Over 50% of seats in the Agartala Municipal Corporation have been reserved for women, and wages are now directly credited to their bank accounts.
The government has also ensured a 33% reservation for women in the Tripura State Rifles, he added.
The Chief Minister asserted the government's commitment to women's education, waiving fees for female students, setting up a 50-bed hostel in Gonda Twisa and establishing women-run police stations in all districts. These efforts aim to ensure that women are not only able to work for the country's development but also contribute to the country's overall well-being.
