REGIONAL, June 08, 2025: Protests in Manipur following arrests of Meitei activists have continued despite the administration imposing prohibitory orders and suspending internet services in five Imphal valley districts. Demonstrators have burned tires on roads in Uripok, Koirengei and Khurai districts defying orders.
Prohibitory orders have been imposed in Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Bishnupur and Kakching districts, while internet and mobile data services have been suspended in these valley areas since Saturday night. Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla held a security review meeting with senior officials in the wake of the demonstrations.
A delegation of at least 20 legislators, including those from the BJP and Congress, met with the governor to discuss the current law and order situation in the northeastern state. Five people were arrested in connection with earlier incidents of violence, triggering widespread protests in the northeastern state since Saturday.
The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested a leader of Arambai Tenggol at Imphal Airport Sunday for alleged involvement in criminal activities related to Manipur violence that began in 2023.
