AGARTALA, June 19, 2025: Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha said the state government plans to include a chapter on Sex Education and HIV/AIDS in the school curriculum from Class 8 to 12 and will hold a discussion with the Education Department. He made the announcement at an awareness meeting organised by the AIDS Control Society in the lobby of the Tripura Legislative Assembly Thursday.
Speaking at the programme in the presence of members of the Tripura Legislative Forum on HIV/AIDS, Dr Saha stressed the need for collective action to eliminate HIV/AIDS and fight against it. He also called for leaders to speak about the issue during their events to help people remember it.
He warned about the increasing prevalence of HIV/AIDS in society and felt the need to raise awareness about the reasons behind it. He asserted the importance of not politicizing the issue as viruses do not see political colours.
Chief Minister also urged the state institutions to involve more boys and girls in sports, cultural affairs and other activities to free them from drug addiction and HIV/AIDS. Dr Saha urged public representatives to participate in the fight against the drug menace and to create youth ambassadors to create awareness against drug abuse.
