Footballer Vijay Shankar passes away after prolonged illness
39-year-old player had been bedridden for almost four years

AGARTALA, June 02, 2024: Famed footballer Bijay Shankar Jamatia has passed away after a prolonged illness. The 39-year-old died at his home in Nowabar, Killa, Gomati district Sunday morning.
He had been bedridden for almost four years. Vijay played for various clubs in Agartala. He also represented Tripura for several years in games and competitions.
Vijay Shankar was the youngest of six children of the late Puti Kishore and homemaker Purna Devi Jamatia. In 2020, he was suddenly paralyzed and confined to bed.
His last game was for Nine Bullets in Agartala in 2016. His wife, Shukla Debbarma, is employed in the Tripura Police.
The death of Vijay has cast a shadow of mourning in the sporting community.
