REGIONAL, August 08, 2025: The National Archives of India and the Higher Education Department, Nagaland, have organised an exhibition on the Development of Education in North Eastern India at the Capital Convention Centre, Kohima, Friday. The event, which was attended by Minister of Higher Education and Tourism, Temjen Imna Along, highlighted the region's immense progress in education and the need for documentation.
MLA Dr Tseilhoutuo Rhutso thanked the Director General of the National Archives of India for organising the exhibition, highlighting the urgent need for archiving the state's rich history and cultural legacy. He also proposed that a similar exhibition be curated focusing on important personalities of India and called for the establishment of an Archives Centre in Nagaland.
Director General Samar Nanda emphasised the importance of preserving culture and the journey of education in North East India.
The exhibition aims to capture the multifaceted history of education in Northeast India through archival documents and scholarly materials, tracing the interplay between indigenous traditions, missionary legacies, colonial frameworks and modern state policies that have shaped the region's educational institutions.
The exhibition is based on various documents, private papers, rare books, visual displays, photographs and multimedia presentations. The exhibition is scheduled to be held from August 8 to 15 2025 at the Capital Convention Centre, Kohima.
