Agartala, January 18, 2020: Police booked a former extremist leader for allegedly raping a woman and her young daughter after luring them with financial support. Ananta Debbarma, who led a faction of outlawed National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) to lay down arms 15 years back, denied allegations and claimed his innocence.
Police swung into action after a man alleged that Ananta Debbarma raped his wife and young daughter many times. He lodged complaint in Jampuijala police station in Sepahijala district and east Agartala police station against the accused.
The complainant claimed that former extremist leader developed an illicit relation with his wife eight years ago and a year ago accused lured his 21 years old daughter, and raped them at different locations.
Ananta Debbarma was given a government quarter in Agartala as offshoot of the peace deal his group reached with the government ahead of surrender. This particular accommodation was allegedly used for raping the women.
Police organised medical tests of both mother and daughter, but tight-lipped to share information on progress of investigation. The accused has not been detained yet.
