AGARTALA, April 06 2021: Election in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) Tuesday held peacefully barring minor incidents. Over 82 percent votes were polled for 28 seats of the council that went to poll.
State’s ruling BJP and main regional contenders IPFT and TIPRA did not lodge any complaint nor they publicly raised any suspicion, but CPI(M) led left front that governed the council for continuous 15 years registered volley of complaints with the state election commission.
It demanded repolling in 65 polling stations claiming there were gross irregularities, threats and intimidation by supporters of ruling BJP-IPFT collation and TIPRA. CPI(M)’s discontent however was contradicted by none other than its state Secretary Gautam Das.
Speaking to newsmen he expressed satisfaction that people of the state for the first time in last three years have cast their votes themselves ignoring all threats and intimidations.
Meanwhile state election commission sources said over 82 percent votes were polled in the elections. They said a final figure would be released after accumulation data received from all constituencies.
Election to the TTAADC was due in May last year but could not be held due to Covid-19 pandemic.
The council was constituted in 1982 under sixth schedule of the constitution with state’s three fourth lands.
