NATIONAL, June 26, 2024: The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has handed over the Medium Range-Microwave Obscurant Chaff Rocket (MR-MOCR) to the Indian Navy Wednesday. The technology, developed by DRDO's Defence Laboratory in Jodhpur, aims to obscure radar signals and create a microwave shield around platforms and assets, reducing radar detection.
The rocket uses special fibers with a diameter of few microns and unique microwave obscuration properties. When fired, it forms a microwave obscurant cloud in space, spreading over a sufficient area with adequate persistence time, creating an effective shield against hostile threats with Radio Frequency seekers.
Phase-I trials of the MR-MOCR were successfully conducted from Indian Navy ships, demonstrating the cloud blooming and persistence in space. In Phase-II trials, the Indian Navy demonstrated and cleared the reduction of an aerial target to 90%. The number of MR-MOCR meeting all qualification requirements was handed over to the Indian Navy.
