AGARTALA, January 23 2023: CPI(M) has on Monday finalised list of candidates it will put up in ensuing assembly elections under a ‘done deal’ with the Congress. Party led left front Chairman Narayan Kar will declare the nominations in presence of its constituents – RSP, CPI, Forward Block and CPI(M-L).
The assembly election in Tripura is due on February 16.
The Congress on the other will publish its list Wednesday as approval of the high command is awaited. Party is expected to contest less than 20 seats as junior partner of the election coalition to defeat ruling BJP, but yet to be given a formal name.
The Left Front has convened a press conference at 5 pm tomorrow (Tuesday) to announce the list of candidates and disseminate other details. Sources said former Chief Minister and CPI(M) Politburo Member Manik Sarkar is unlikely to contest forthcoming election.
It is not clear whether CPI(M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury who Monday attended the state committee meeting here will attend the Presser. Even Manik Sarkar might skip.
